Our Chairman
My insurance career commenced in 1954 with Iron Trades, where I progressed to Deputy Manager of their Southern Regional Office.
I transferred to broking in 1964 as a share owning Director, bringing to the market the first household oil fired central heating insurance on behalf of Shell Mex and BP. I followed this with the first HNW household building and contents cover, since the majority of oil fired centrally heated homes were in that category.
I set up my own insurance broking business in 1972 and from 1973 onwards developed a UK Public Sector connection mainly with the NHS, where today we are the major provider of motor insurance successfully contesting six Framework Agreement tenders to date. We were also the first to bring to market Early Termination and GAP cover to satisfy the need for cover where leased cars predominated.
After 60 plus years to date I have enjoyed a very interesting career in insurance which like some others I came to more by chance than choice. In that time, I have served numerous Local Authorities, Government Departments, Oil Companies, Heritage Railways, an Outside TV Broadcaster (Match of the Day) and have insured Killer Wales (Orcas) and Dolphins for a Safari Park, a Hindu religious sect, Airlines and Film Producers.
I was pleased to serve as the South East Regional Chairman of the Corporation of Insurance Brokers, also BIBA, and was elected South East Region member of Insurance Broker Registration Council. I was also President of Croydon CII and am now a member of our Livery Company, the Worshipful Company of Insurers.
I still get a buzz from the business and the new opportunities which we are pursuing and developing.
